An overview of the “back handed slap” in the cultural context below:

Unfortunately, Christianity has removed itself from the biblical culture to the point many idioms or cultural expressions are not understood as with this passage. Yeshua is quoting from Proverbs 25:23-29 which are instructions for wisdom concerning deceptive speech, personal slander, and returning a verbal insult when verbally attacked. To “turn the other cheek” is a Hebrew idiom for not returning an insult when one is received, not as many think, that your enemy is allowed to attack you or you family without encountering resistance and self defense. – Source

Turn the other cheek? What does the following mean? Also note how Micah 7 says that upheaval is coming with the coming of the Messiah.

And he said to them, “When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about me has its fulfillment.” And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” And he said to them, “It is enough.”
