Court-martial Chaplains who talk about Jesus, says Pentagon! May 2, 2013

A Pentagon spokesman has just said in writing that Christian troops will be punished and court-martialed if they dare to talk about their personal faith in Jesus Christ.

“Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense,” LCDR Nate Christensen said in a written statement. He declined to say if any chaplains or service members had been prosecuted for such an offense.

“Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis and it would be inappropriate to speculate on the outcome in specific cases,” he said.

So let me get this straight. If a chaplain preaches the gospel of Jesus Christ, whether in counseling or in the chapel, and anybody is offended, the chaplain can be punished in writing?

THIS HAPPENED TO ME. In 2005 my commander downgraded my evaluation and nearly ended my chaplain career, in writing. My C.O. illegally punished me for quoting “exclusive” Bible verses like John 3:36 in the base chapel during optionally attended Christian worship. The Navy lawyers claimed commanders can punish chaplains for religious speech, and they did, but they broke the law and violated their oath to the Constitution.

So let me get this straight. If a chaplain is ordered to stop praying “in Jesus’ name” outside of Sunday chapel, and the chaplain disobeys by praying in Jesus’ name in uniform and worshipping in public, they can be sent to court-martial for disobeying orders?

THIS HAPPENED TO ME. In 2006 as a Navy Chaplain I faced misdemeanor court-martial and was found guilty of “worshipping in public” in my uniform, outside of Sunday chapel. I was later vindicated by Congress, who rescinded the same bad policy for which I was punished. All proof documents are posted here. I won the policy war, but lost my career.

Now if Congress does not intervene, and protect military chaplains and troops’ right to pray “in Jesus’ name” and freedom for all our troops to freely speak of their faith or preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to their peers without coercion but with freedom to convert and voluntarily change religion, whether in counseling or in church or in their barracks, THEN THERE IS NO FREEDOM OF RELIGION IN THE MILITARY, and the Constitution is dead. The systematic anti-Christian persecution has now begun in earnest. – Source

Let it be known that the author of this blog sees no salvation possible other than “Lordship Salvation”. Simply put, who should wear the crown in your life? See Revelation 4:10.

The following quoted from Theopedia:

Lordship salvation

“By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.” (1 John 3:10, ESV)

Lordship salvation is the position that receiving Christ involves a turning in the heart from sin and, as a part of faith, a submissive commitment to obey Jesus Christ as Lord. It also maintains that progressive sanctification and perseverance must necessarily follow conversion. Those who hold to the doctrine of perseverance of the saints see this not only as a requirement, but an assured certainty according to the sustaining grace of Christ.

The doctrine of lordship salvation has implications for evangelism, assurance, and the pursuit of holiness. The grace of God in salvation not only forgives, but transforms, and a lack of obedience or transformation in a person’s life is warrant to doubt that they have been born again. The grounds for assurance include not only the objective promises of God (like John 3:16), but also the internal testimony of the Spirit (Romans 8:16) and holiness the Spirit produces in our lives (1 John 2:3-4,19).

The non-lordship salvation position is popularly known by critics as “easy believism”, and by adherents as “free grace”. However, proponents of Lordship salvation frown upon this usage of the term “free grace”, as the free grace spoken of in the Bible both justifies the sinner and transforms the heart unto obedience.

The Pilgrim’s Progress (…from this world to that which is to come) is a Christian allegory written by John Bunyan and published in February, 1678. It is regarded as one of the most significant works of religious English literature, has been translated into more than 200 languages, and has never been out of print.

The Pilgrim’s Progress was written during Bunyan’s imprisonment for violations of the Conventicle Act, which prohibited the holding of religious services outside the auspices of the established Church of England.

Pilgrim’s Progress is ranked #9 on Amazon in classic British literature at the time of this writing. It received a 5 star rating from 87% of readers. The audiobook (by Answers In Genesis) is highly recommended (you may find it slightly cheaper at other retailers).

Here’s a preview of a recent movie that may appeal more to those that struggle to start a new book. The book has much more detail & should still be well worth the read.

Take some time to listen to the detailed discussion on this topic (also called “Christian particularism”) above, or download the audio segments below. Are Christians arrogant to think like this? If not, why not? Prepare for a thorough treatment of most of the questions you likely have had on this topic. You should find it reasonable & logically presented.

Check out the Defenders Podcast for the full audio series on Christian Particularism.

Note that in Part 2, when Dr Craig mentions “matters of fact” & “Darwinian evolution”, he does not imply that “Darwinian evolution” is anything like popular media presents it. He elaborates on evolution in some of his other material. He merely tries to contrast things that relate to facts (like the other examples he mentions, which also can’t be empirically proven in some cases i.e. “big bang”) and matters of taste, that fall totally outside of the realm of ‘provability’ since taste is implicitly subjective.

The Incredulous Hulk Award!

I have been motivated by the first in the list of blog authors to create this “award”. This ‘award’ is to anyone that stubbornly refuses to honour God & to accept & thank Him for the forgiveness that He gave us in Jesus / Yeshua that restores fellowship & the literal ‘life line’ to Him. …hence these people willingly cut themselves off from the source of their life – which reminds me of the Darwin Awards – except, the people that receive the Incredulous Hulk Award (seemingly) don’t do so by accident. Also, for the record I’m convinced that there are deep flaws in typical evolution theory.

Christians should understand why people are blinded in this way & even though this may be a way to ‘playfully warn’ the unbeliever, we need to pray for them that they will be granted repentance & restored to life. …which they are likely to ridicule, …but that should also not be a surprise.

We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.  For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.  For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.  For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.  Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

So, without any further ado, the blogs / sites / people that received this award thus far:

  1. http://corruptheretic.wordpress.com/2012/05/10/heretic-mad
  2. http://wereallmadinhere.wordpress.com/2012/03/30/my-dreams also this link

If you feel that you want to ‘award’ this to someone else – go ahead, email them the link or something. If you want to reuse this satirical post on your blog, you should link back here or repost to make the meaning clear & the link posted should indicate the relevant blog post that most makes the reason for the ‘award’ clear.

Note that atheists or people of other religions you encounter may need apologetics (authoritative & compelling information to help you defend your faith or understand it better) to help them overcome some intellectual hurdles or answer some questions. I highly recommend Apologetics315 – go have a look at the site & listen to some of the audio there – especially if you’ve not been exposed to apologetics before.

Are there any Messianic prophecies in the five books of Moses? Jesus / Yeshua said there are. Can it be true? How clear can they be if (most) Jews have not noticed them until now? Do Christians try to “read prophecy into” the Hebrew scriptures? Listen to audio above or download it here.

This myth really is poorly supported. The supposed parallels are invalid for several reasons. See video for details…
