CAIRO – Egypt’s military will retain broad executive powers, help shape the framing of a new constitution and keep its vast financial holdings hidden even after an elected parliament is seated, one of the ruling generals told foreign journalists Wednesday.

Maj. Gen. Mukhtar Mulla sounded at times conciliatory and other times defensive or defiant in a rare two-hour interview that offered the most in-depth look to date at the vision that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces has for Egypt’s democratic transition. Since they took power upon President Hosni Mubarak’s ouster last February, the reclusive generals typically have announced their plans via state media or an official Facebook page.

“We don’t speak of our work. We let our work speak for us,” Mulla said, explaining the opacity of the council’s inner workings and its financial portfolio.

The latest communique, issued Wednesday, hands executive powers to the military-appointed interim prime minister, Kamal el-Ganzouri, except for command of the armed forces and the judiciary.

Fear-mongering? Well, no. Everyone ignores Hitler when he was broadcasting his plans. He was just harmless & crazy … just like Ahmadinejad right?

“Pentagon chief laments Israel’s growing ‘isolation’ from traditional partners like Turkey” – Washington Post

Did the US have no impact on this “growing isolation”? Maybe it depends on the media & spin you’ve been exposed to. Really – check out the history of the “peace process” & see where offers & concessions happened. Check how many concessions the PA, Hamas & Hezbollah made.

Also, an update on future politics in Egypt. Concerns around the elections in Egypt – 60% thus far (at time of this recording) went to Islamist parties. Realistically the hopes for peace would have been in victories for secular parties.

…and insurgency warning in weeks or months ahead in pro-western Jordan. Would the US support Jordan or also ‘assist’ in terms of toppling the government of the only likely peaceful border that Israel has?
